Description: Hairy Dawg and Uga VI Bulldog Mascots Uga VI

Caption: Tradition has it that the University of Georgia acquired the nickname Bulldogs because of the strong ties with Yale whose nickname is Bulldogs. The name appeared to stick in 1920, when several newspaper stories referred to the football team as the Georgia Bulldogs. Hairy Dawg and Uga are likely the most recognized bulldogs in the country, attending Georgia home football games, athletic events and many other special events on and off campus.
