Description: Arch in Snow


Caption: Although winter storms are rare in the South, snow will occasionally blanket the University of Georgia campus and Athens-Clarke County. Even a small accumulation of snow may result in a rare day off for faculty, staff and students. In recent years, heavy snowfall has closed the campus in 2009, 2007, 1987 and 1983, when a record 8.7 inches of snow fell in Athens.
